When LAUREN KESSLER (Barbara Niven) and her father STAN (Daniel J. Travanti), a retired prosecutor, move to Philadelphia to start a new life, they think they've found the perfect house in the perfect neighborhood. But they soon realize that nothing could be further from the truth...

They discover that the property's former owner, Garrett, was brutally murdered in the guest house, and the man's wife, Amanda, went to prison for killing him. Lauren's shocked by the news, but Stan, his lawyerly instincts taking over, becomes intrigued with the case.

Meanwhile, their neighbor across the street, RYAN (Gary Hudson), an attractive widower, begins to take an interest in the divorced Lauren. On the surface, Ryan seems like an amazing guy... smart, attractive, charming... But what Lauren mistakes as a flattering interest is really a deadly obsession.

As Ryan develops a relationship with Lauren, he's disturbed that Stan is spending more and more of his free time looking into the murder. When Stan begins to believe that Amanda is really innocent, Ryan fears that Stan will eventually discover the truth... that Ryan murdered Garrett in a jealous rage because he was having an affair with Ryan's wife, ROXANNE (Lisa Zane). With his sights set on marrying Laura and starting a new life with her, Ryan will eliminate anything that could jeopardize their future... including Stan.

Stan-- with a little help from Ryan-- dies suddenly of a heart attack. Lucky for Lauren, Ryan rises to the occasion in her time of grief, doing everything he can to help her deal with her loss. Unfortunately for Ryan's plans, he didn't anticipate that Lauren, also convinced of Amanda's innocence, would pick up her father's investigation where her dad left off.

Knocking on the wrong doors lets a few skeletons out of Ryan's closet... and everything comes to a head on the weekend he takes Lauren to a lakeside inn, hoping to give her a reprieve from mourning her father. When Lauren finally puts all the pieces together and realizes that Ryan harbors some very dark secrets, she knows she must get away...

Isolated and trapped, Lauren finds out that leaving Ryan won't be as easy as she thought. The sheer mention of ending their romance makes Lauren a target of Ryan's murderous rage, forcing her to fight for her life. After all... if he can't have her, no one can...
