A city street. Cops surround the car of Lainie Wheeler (ALEXANDRA PAUL). Guns are drawn. A shot is fired. Has Lainie been hit? Is she still alive? How did she get here?

Ten days earlier, Lainie Wheeler was released from rehab, under the supervision of social worker Gloria Parker (MICHELE GREENE). She had been sent there after becoming dependent on prescription drugs, as a result of her often difficult work with sick and dying patients at a hospice. She is now finally ready to start her life over again. and to regain custody of her two young daughters who were placed in foster care during her incarceration.

But then, something horrifying happens.

While driving home from her first day at her new job assisting the producer of a television show, Lainie's car breaks down on a lonely country road. A few minutes later, a SUV happens along, driven by the show's guest star - popular and adored baseball player, Harry Brewer.

Lainie agrees to accompany Brewer to his isolated mansion to call a tow truck. But once there, she is shocked when Brewer tries to rape and kill her. She fends off his attacks and in the process, kills him and causes his body to fall into a well.

Fearful that no one will believe what really happened, she flees Brewer's house, hoping to keep her horrifying ordeal a secret.

Soon, police detective Martin Webster (LINDEN ASHBY) begins to investigate Brewer's disappearance and gets a tip that leads him to Lainie. She does everything she can to throw him off of the trail, but knows that the clock is ticking.

As the police close in on her, Lainie tries to keep it all together while attempting to locate Brewer's reclusive ex-wife, Marci, to get the evidence she hopes will prove that Brewer was a violent abuser. After much work, she locates Marci, but is stunned when the young woman refuses to help her.

Meanwhile, Webster finds a bloody knife with Lainie's fingerprints on it and puts out a warrant for her arrest.

Which brings us back to the beginning of our story. cops surround Lainie's car. guns are drawn. a shot rings out. and this time we see that the bullet thankfully misses her. She is taken into custody.

Lainie is brought to Brewer's house, where Webster interrogates her as a police diver dredges the well. Expecting Brewer's body to appear at any minute, Lainie has no choice but to confess to the killing, insisting it was self-defense. Webster does not believe her.

And then, in an unexpected turn of events, the police pull a body from the well. and it's a YOUNG WOMAN. Shortly thereafter, they pull another body from the well. and it's ANOTHER YOUNG WOMAN! It seems that Brewer was not only a rapist.but also a killer! Webster has no choice but to believe Lainie's story.

And thus, happily, Lainie is exonerated and reunited with her children.
